The story of how the actress came to know the child and how she fully funded his surgery costs was spotted on an April issue of 'Women Sense' magazine. The brain tumor surgery cost 37,800,000 KRW (approximately $32,000) plus other hospitalization expenses, paid completely in full by the actress.
The child is reported to have fully recovered after a successful operation. The child's family sent the actress a touching, handwritten letter, thanking Lee Young Ae for her generosity, and pledging to help other families in similar situations in Vietnam.
