THE GIRL WHO CAN SEE SMELLS - EPISODE 12
"If you shoot him, you'll be as bad as him -- a killer!"
Kwon is just too good to be captured easily. Through a series of events owing to police incompetence and blind luck, the killer chef stays just one step ahead of the long arm of the law.
Cho Rim is lured into Kwon's clutches, but Moo Gak saves her. The investigative team shows up as backup and finds Cho Rim's father, Mr. Oh, alive and well. Cho Rim collapses and, after a stint in the hospital, we find that her house has been burglarized with one thing taken: a picture of her. The cops set a complicated trap for Chef Kwon, which he easily bypasses, finding both the hidden camera and the fake picture of Cho Rim. Cho Rim, acting as bait in the trap, heads to his house to retrieve the camera without knowing he had already discovered it, but Kwon is home, fouling the setup, and the cops have delivered Cho Rim right into his hands...
Cho Rim walks away from Moo Gak -- and their relationship
This is one of those episodes where you want to yell at the characters. There were so many things they did wrong, it was kind of a train wreck:
First off, the relationship. The OTP between Cho Rim and Moo Gak has hit a hiccup, and you just want to grab her and reassure her that it's not her fault, and that he knows about all this and still loves you, and you love him, so grab the opportunity! The cute moments are still there, at least tipping the hat to what they had. I'm still betting on them getting together at the end.
Cuz even Moo Gak needs a "stuffie" to sleep with.
And let's use the potential victim as bait. That just comes under the heading of Really. Bad. Idea. When is that ever a *good* idea? One: you know Kwon wants her dead, or at least we're pretty sure. She's anything but invulnerable. Two: you know he's smart and all of your plans to nab him have failed, even catching him red-handed doesn't seem to work. Three: If she is on his turf, there's innumerable ways to kill her quickly, rendering all your sophisticated surveillance and tricks useless. Yeah, guys, really smart.
What they did get right was the cinematography. It's always fun to see Cho Rim use her abilities. They've gone all out to make it look spiffy: having the "scent particles" (for lack of a better word) spinning in mid-air, glowing, each scent having a different icon (much like a snow flake)
"Yeah. I'd like a medium pizza, deep dish, extra cheese"
Still, I enjoyed watching, even if I wanted to shake these guys and tell them what to do.
And now, just in case you haven't seen it, here's "5 Minutes More" from 'The Girl Who Can See Smells' OST, by Yano, Sangdo, and NC.A:
