THE GIRL WHO COULD SEE SMELLS - EPISODE 11
I'll just leave this here. Because love.
Ugh. They did it. They really did it. Out of the blue they snatched the hated "I-have-to-leave-you" trope and stuck it smack in the middle of the episode. No warning, no buildup, just *bam!* This was a little slower, too, really only giving us some tension at the very end. Well, on to the recap:
Chef Kwon finds Cho Rim reading the note from the doctor, but she passes it off as the script for the cooking show. Meanwhile, at the Police station, Moo Gak demands an explanation for why he was busted off the homicide team, and is told simply to go home and cool off. Both Moo Gak and Cho Rim find out, separately, that her parents were murdered, and that Moo Gak's sister was a victim because of the mistaken identity with Cho Rim. This weighs heavily on both their hearts. Moo Gak and Cho Rim celebrate our hero's birthday together, then Cho Rim breaks it off with him. The next day, Cho Rim wants to try to restore her memories, and Lt. Yeom tells her that Chef Kwon is likely the murderer. Moo Gak is back on the investigative team again, thanks to Cho Rim's bargain with the lieutenant. Kwon finds out that Mr. Oh is related to one of his victims uses him to call forth the daughter whom he believes is actually the witness from the past. Our killer chef texts Cho Rim using Oh's cell, luring her to his home...mwa-ha-ha!
Chef Kwon and Moo Gak face off in a battle of wits
I kept thinking don't run away don't run away don't run away -- doh! She ran away! I wasn't sure if it would be her or Moo Gak. But I think Moo Gak would be more "I'm reaching out to you; help me." So now she's going to disappear for a year and volunteer her mad medical skillz to underserviced areas on Jeju Island. Oh wait -- that was another drama, sorry. Seriously, why do that? I think if I were in pain, I would run to someone, not run away. And who's the closest to her right now? Well, there's her adoptive dad. There's her friend at the coffee shop. And there's Moo Gak. A better solution: "I need to be alone now. Please. I'll call you." Why always whip out the breakup card?
It's always nice to have the reassuring hand of a killer on your shoulder
The reactions here are way off. No one questions how in the world the girl they were hanging out with all this time happens to be the witness from the past they were looking for. Nor do they react in big shock when they find out--not even Cho Rim. They're just like, "Oh. Okay." Hello! This was the big reveal I was looking forward to and it was so anticlimactic.
I love the reaction when she is told that Chef Kwon is the barcode murderer. Not an "omo!" or a "holy hell!" or anything of that stripe. Only "I work closely with him so I could help rein him in." Hardly how I would act if someone told me my boss is a serial killer. I think it go a little more like this:
That, and mentally composing my resignation letter. :)
And during the breakup, they get all misty-eyed, but not much else. Moo Gak at least kinda gives an attempt at emotion when he yells at her. I've seen much more emotion in those "MV reaction" videos. In the past, during love-gone-bad scenarios, I've been a little less collected than that:
Okay, maybe not that bad.
So, It's comment time. Thoughts on the breakup? More plot holes I missed? What else?
