TRIANGLE EPISODE 25
Recap:
Dong Soo and Young Dal intercept Yang Ha and warn him, but the chaebol blows them off. After being updated by Man Bong and Boss Min, Young Dal heads off quickly to save Yang Ha from assassination. Later, Young Dal entrusts Boss Min to call in and redeem $600 million worth of Chungjin Construction bonds all at once. If Chungjin, Chairman Go's company, cannot pay (which it can't), it will go bankrupt. Go begs, steals, and borrows to find the funds, but to no avail. Young Dal's friends bug the offices of Go and Hyun so they can monitor what's going on there. Yang Ha's would-be killer is found and confesses. Yang Ha drinks with Yoo Jin, who finally sees in him the same man she fell in love with a decade ago.
Dong Soo and Young Dal eat with Jung Hee and her family, and they catch up from where our main characters left off as children. As they leave, drunken Yang Ha challenges Young Dal to a card game; the stakes, control over an aspect of their lives. Young Dal wins, and the only thing he demands of Yang Ha is that the young chaebol call him Hyung. Young Dal gobbles up Chairman Go's shares of Daejung Casino and is now the largest shareholder. Young Dal throws a party to celebrate. Our heroes find out through the bugs they planted in Manager Hyun's office that Chairman Go intends to kill off Young Dal's brothers. Two groups race to find Yang Ha, one to save him, the other to see him killed...
"This is the scum that tried to kill Yang Ha."
My take:
So Young Dal has finally clawed his way to the top. He's proven himself to be quite the skillful businessman, using his assets to not only protect himself and those he loves but also to make financial deals and acquire even more power. Like the show says, he started as a trashy thug and worked his way up the ladder.
I was struck by the interaction between Yang Ha and Yoo Jin this episode. The pair had always gone back and forth, but finally, they come to a possible resolution this episode. Obviously, she had always been the jilted lover, and it sounds like he treats her as a friend, but can't open up enough to really let her in. With Jung Hee out of his reach, maybe he ought to seek greener pastures. I don't think I'd want to see her simply take him back; I'd like to think they could forge a new beginning.
Drinking to deal with problems.
Also we see something here that we see more and more often: Young Dal kicking back. The young man is usually so serious and intense that he pushes personal concerns out of the way to achieve his goals. This tendency even endangered his relationship with Jung Hee. I think he's finally realized there are times he can relax with his friends and his hyung as long as he doesn't lose sight of the prize.
There was a line that struck me as funny, and that was Boss Min's assertion that Chairman Go would "really kill Yang Ha." So the other time this episode was a trial run? How is he any more dangerous now than when he was before? It just kinda threw me right out of the show. I was in the zone, on the edge of my seat, and then they spout that line. Maybe it's the fact that Go really has nothing to lose now...
At Young Dal's party
Three's only one episode left. I can't wait to see how all this is going to play out. Young Dal has essentially won, so what's left? I'm guessing he'll still have to deal with Chairman Yoon, Manager Hyun, and Chairman Go, and they won't go quietly.
