Chris Golightly, former 'American Idol' and 'Superstar K3' contestant who has been in the Korean public's eye for not so good reasons with several controversies surrounding him, received a 1 year suspended sentence for 2 years for fraud and intimidation of his former girlfriend.
On May 31st, the Seoul District Court sentenced Chris Golightly after finding him guilty of all charges. Although the prosecution had asked for 1.5 years in jail, the court dealt out a less severe sentence due to the singer's previous clean record.
As mentioned previously, according to the police, Chris Golightly borrowed around 32,000,000 Won (around $28,000 USD) from his former girlfriend Ms. Yoon, and never paid her back. When she asked him to pay back the money she lent him, he sent her a text message saying, "If you sue me, I won't let you get away with it", thereby threatening and intimidating her.
The court stated during their ruling, "The defendant lied to the victim to take her money and when she reported him, the defendant threatened her with texts like 'I'm going to reveal your identity [to the public]. This is not a light criminal matter and the defendant has shown no effort and no intention to pay back the victim."
In the midst of this not so good news, Christ Golightly recently announced that he is expecting a baby boy with his current Korean fiancee.
