'Marine Boy' Park Tae Hwan's humongous 6,500 calorie diet and Michael Phelp's previous 12,000 calorie diet have been revealed!
Netizens were left in shock when the athletes' voracious appetites were disclosed online. According to Park Tae Hwan's staff, "If the swimmer craves ramen than a whole box of ramen needs to be opened," and "He can finish a loaf of bread in the blink of an eye."
Every morning, Park Tae Hwan consumes 8-10 pieces of bread, a cup of coffee milk, and finishes the meal with one grapefruit. For lunch, he switches it up to Korean cuisine, eating a meal consisting of a bowl of white rice, dwenjang jjigae (bean paste stew), a rolled egg, and gim (dried seaweed). His dinner is a feast. On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, he eats 10-15 plates (20-30 pieces) of fushion sushi along with orange juice, while on Tuesdays and Thursdays, his menu includes bokkeumbap (Korean fried rice) with kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew), gganpoongi (deep fried spicy chicken), and a kimchi pancake. On the weekends, the swimmer eats samgyupsal (pork belly) with rice, mushrooms, garlic, and other vegetables.
Michael Phelps' previous daily diet was definitely more of an American-style meal and even higher in calories. In preparation for the '2008 Beijing Olympics', the American swimmer consumed 12,000 calories a day. His menu was as shown in the photos below, but he's reported to have recently adjusted his diet to more nutrient-rich foods with less calories.
Netizens who came across the photos responded, "Say what..." "You have to eat well to be strong," "A whopping 10 slices of bread in the morning," and "That's Daebak," unable to hide their astonishment.
