Both T-ara and TVXQ (Tohoshinki) have been awarded with the "Top Pop Artists" award at the Billboard Japan Music Awards 2011 event which took place on March 3rd.
This is good news for both groups, with T-ara having just released their newest Japanese single "Roly Poly" along with TVXQ set to release their upcoming Japanese single, "Still".
2011 was a fruitful year for both T-ara & TVXQ in Japan. When T-ara released their Japanese debut single, "Bo Peep Bo Peep" and TVXQ released their album 'TONE', it marked the first time in the 42-year-long history of the Oricon that South Korean artists have claimed first in both, the single and the album ranking simultaneously.
T-ara sold 50,000 copies in their first week for "Bo Peep Bo Peep" and also become the first foreign group and first female artist(s) to reach first place with their debut single. Meanwhile, TVXQ's album sold 205,000 copies in its first week, which also is an outstanding achievement for foreign male solo artists and groups. It marked the first time in 11 years and four months since Bon Jovi's 'Crash' that a foreign male artist sold over 200,000 copies in the first week alone.
Other winners for this category were AKB48, JUJU, and Avril Lavigne.
T-ara was present and proudly accepted their award, they also put on a performance of "Roly Poly". TVXQ on the other hand, unfortunately couldn't attend the event. Additionally, YG Entertainment's Gummy was awarded with the K-Pop New Artist of the Year award.
Congratulations to T-ara, TVXQ, & Gummy, and check out T-ara's "Roly Poly" performance below:
