Every one of them seem to get criticized somehow, the awards aren't distributed fairly, people are not attending and the stages are too sexy. Let's try to get to the bottom of these award shows. The stars who don't attend. At MAMA, the entire SM Entertainment family boycotted the award show. On top of that, trot singers refused to attend as well. Others such as SS501, Son Dambi, and After School were all unable to attend because of conflicting schedules. With all these people at the award show, it would've made a significant difference and the absence of these big stars truly matters a lot. You definitely feel the emptiness when the year's most hard working artistes don't come to accept the awards they deserve. At this year's Golden Disk Awards, YG singers were nowhere to be seen. We still don't know for sure why 2NE1 and G-Dragon didn't attend nor win any awards. YG, JYP, and SM. At the MAMA's, 2NE1 grabbed four awards. G-Dragon snatched a Daesang, Teddy won a songwriter award and all of that totaled to six awards for the YG Family. 2PM won two, a Daesang and the "Best Male Group Award." At the GDA's, SNSD took two, Super Junior snagged three, and SHINee received one, which means the SM crew won six awards as well. It's almost as if, if you don't belong in one of the three major companies, you won't win big at all. The spectacle. The award show's are lightened up by the special stages of the stars. At MAMA, there were a variety of special stages that mixed groups together and remixed many of 2009's hit songs. MAMA had more spectacle but the GDA had more class. It was more clean cut. The winners. At MAMA, people were furious over the fact that the SM Family did not win anything. People were mad once again during the GDA's when the YG Family didn't win an award either. We can't just point our fingers at one person in this situation though. What is so wrong with giving someone an award even if they're not there? Shouldn't awards really go to the ones that deserve them? Why should these artistes rely on their company to win them something? The relationship between a company and an award show clearly affects the results which is another disadvantage artistes receive in the K-pop industry. So are these award shows nothing but a longer version of a music program? If the awards aren't distributed fairly and all they do is draw in more viewers for some special stages, why even have them? What really needs to get fixed around here? Via: OSEN
