For those who are regular watchers of SBS Family Outing, you might have felt an emptiness throughout the show. Park Si Yeon, wasn't seen for the most part, almost like she was an audience on set rather than a cast. The criticisms from netizens had been rising, considering the fact that Park Si Yeon had been a replacement member. She had joined the team alongside Park Hae Jin after the exit of Park Ye Jin and Lee Chun Hee. Park Si Yeon's agency, Eyagi Entertainment, finally made a statement towards the issue to defend her on the 2nd:
"Park Si Yeon injured her waist during a filming last year, and has been undergoing treatment ever since. She has not fully recovered yet. Unfortunately, during her recent Las Vegas shoot, her injury recurred, and she was told that a surgery was needed for a full recovery."However, Park Si Yeon refused to undergo this crucial surgery for one reason - Family Outing. A long period of post-surgery recuperation was required, which will ultimately lead to an exit from the show. She managed to fight the pain with pain-killers, holding the surgery for later. Although she previously wanted her illness to be hidden from the viewers, she decided to reveal it for she felt like she was a burden for the others. The company added:
"Park Si Yeon refused to exit the show since she did not want to be trouble the staff. She believed that it wasn't right if she left the show after such a short time, and hid her condition from the staff. But the members knew and took great care of her."Park Si Yeon expressed:
"First of all, I am sorry for keeping my injury as a secret and being passive throughout the show. But until my waist breaks into pieces, I wanted to fulfill my role as a member of the "family". I thought if I pushed myself for filming under heavy medication, I would be able to go through them easily. But my condition's getting worse each day, and it has become a very painful process for every step I take. I feel stifled for myself as well for being under this helpless situation. I am very sorry."We can definitely understand what Park Si Yeon is going through at the moment. Her determination to stay is clear, and it sure isn't her fault that she is unable to participate much. She sure deserves a round of applause for her heartfelt effort to present herself toward the audience. Hope you have a speedy recovery, Si Yeon!
