Rain, a.k.a. Bi has joined MTV to launch "End Exploitation and Trafficking" (EXIT), a global campaign to raise awareness about human trafficking. Thai Star Tata Young joins Rain as the representatives of the Asia Pacific Region. "This is a form of slavery that still exists today, and I don't think enough people are aware of that," said Simon Goff, 30, campaign director for MTV EXIT. After drugs, trafficking is the second largest illegal trade in the world and generates about $10 billion each year. The U.N. International Labor Organization estimates that 2.5 million people are victims of trafficking worldwide. Over half of the 2.5 million reside in Asia Pacific, the majority being women and children, most of which are exploited sexually. "It is shocking and sad that the majority of these trafficked and exploited people are women and children. I hope I can be of help to those battling for these people," Rain was quoted as saying. The June 2007 U.S. State Trafficking in Person Reports lists Korea as a Tier One country, which means that the Korean government fully complies with the TVPA (U.S. Trafficking Victims Protection Act). However, with Korean men flocking in droves to Southeast Asia for sex, and the escalating number of foreign brides in Korea, it is garnering media attention. Even though Korea is a developed country, Korean women and girls are trafficked illegally to the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. The MTV documentary is 30 minutes long & quickly paced, it gives viewers an in-depth matter on the subject. It tells the horrific tales of the individuals and how it effects their lives.
