The funeral proceedings for the late singer Wheesung have been put on hold following his sudden passing.
According to an OSEN report on the 11th, it was confirmed that the funeral was postponed due to the overwhelming shock experienced by Wheesung’s mother.
Wheesung was found collapsed in cardiac arrest at his apartment in Gwangjin gu, Seoul, at around 6:29 PM on the 10th. He was 43 years old.
Emergency responders from the fire department, who were dispatched after receiving a report from his family, administered CPR and other emergency measures. However, he was ultimately pronounced deceased. The exact cause of death has not yet been determined, though authorities have stated that no signs of foul play or external intrusion have been found.
In response, Tajo Entertainment, Wheesung’s agency, released an official statement, saying:
"On March 10th, our artist Wheesung left us. He was found in cardiac arrest at his home in Seoul and was pronounced dead. His bereaved family, fellow artists, and staff at Tajo Entertainment are all mourning his passing with heavy hearts. We are devastated to deliver this heartbreaking news to fans who have given Wheesung their unwavering love and support. We ask for your prayers so that Wheesung may rest in peace."
The agency added, "We will provide separate information regarding the funeral arrangements. We earnestly request that unverified rumors and speculative reports not be spread out of respect for the bereaved family, who are in deep shock and grief."
On the 11th, Gwangjin Police Station in Seoul announced that they had requested an autopsy from the National Institute of Scientific Investigation (NIS) to determine the cause of Wheesung’s death.
Following this announcement, some speculated that the delay in the funeral proceedings was due to the autopsy request. However, OSEN’s investigation revealed that the funeral was postponed because the bereaved family, especially Wheesung’s mother, was too grief-stricken to proceed.
An official explained, "Wheesung’s mother is in extreme shock." It was also suggested that there is a possibility the funeral may not take place at all.
In an additional statement, Tajo Entertainment addressed the situation, stating:
"The bereaved family is deeply shocked and devastated by this sudden loss, making it difficult for them to hold the funeral at this time. The funeral will proceed when the family feels ready, and it will be held privately, with only family, relatives, and close acquaintances in attendance, in accordance with the family’s wishes."
Many fellow celebrities have expressed their condolences following the sudden passing of Wheesung. Yoon Min Soo, Verbal Jint, Harisu, Paloalto, 2AM’s Lee Chang Min, Jo Kwon, Changmo, Hangzoo, Greg, EXID’s Hyerin, and Ock Joo Hyun all shared their sorrow and paid tribute to the late singer.
During the press conference for KBS2’s The Seasons – Park Bo Gum’s Cantabile, which was held on the same day, announcer Lee Ye Won, who hosted the event, opened with a tribute to Wheesung, saying: "Before we begin, we have received the heartbreaking news of singer Wheesung’s passing.
