Singer Lim Young Woong recently had his luxury residence temporarily seized by Mapo-gu District Office due to unpaid local taxes, but the seizure has since been lifted. On March 26th KST, his agency Fish Music clarified that the issue was resolved immediately upon discovery and was not a case of intentional tax evasion.
According to the agency, the delay in tax payment occurred because Lim did not receive the tax notice in time. The mailbox for his apartment in Mecenatpolis, located on the third floor rather than at a main entrance, went unchecked for a period of time. The agency explained, “As soon as we became aware of the issue earlier this year, the outstanding taxes were paid in full and the seizure has been lifted. We sincerely apologize for not managing this more carefully.”
Records show that on October 16th, 2023, Mapo-gu Office had temporarily seized Lim’s Mecenatpolis penthouse, which he purchased in September 2022 for approximately 5.1 billion KRW (around $3.5 million USD). The seizure was officially canceled on January 13th, 2024, about three months later. However, speculation has grown as the overall process—from tax delinquency to release—spanned almost a year, raising questions about the delay.
Lim Young Woong’s earnings continue to draw attention. According to Fish Music’s 2023 audit report, his revenue that year was estimated at 19.2 billion KRW (approximately $13.0 million USD), with total compensation including dividends and unpaid royalties estimated at 23.5 billion KRW (approximately $16 million USD). Lim is also the largest shareholder of Fish Music.
