Director and actor Yang Ik Joon, known for his film 'Breathless', has been accused of assault by a junior colleague.
On February 10, the Seoul Seongbuk Police reported that Yang Ik Joon has been under investigation after being charged with assault. According to the police, the incident occurred on December 13, 2024, at a bar in Seongbuk District that Yang Ik Joon owns. He allegedly struck A, a film staff member, multiple times with a bundle of paper and verbally abused him. The complaint was filed on December 30, and the investigation is nearing completion. The police stated, "The case is in its final stages and will soon be referred to the prosecution."
Yang Ik Joon gained widespread recognition in 2009 for his film 'Breathless', where he served as director, writer, and lead actor. His acting credits include popular dramas such as 'The Innocent Man', 'Inspiring Generation', 'It's Okay, That's Love', 'The Scholar Who Walks the Night', 'Queen of Mystery', 'Bad Guys: City of Evil', 'To Jenny', 'Hellbound', and 'Hellbound Season 2'. He also appeared in films such as 'The Fake', 'Juri', 'Our Homeland', 'Canola', 'The Poet and the Boy', and 'La La La'.
Yang Ik Joon is set to star in the upcoming suspense thriller 'Confession', which will premiere on February 19. The film follows two friends trapped by a sudden snowstorm during a mountain hike. The character Ji Yong, injured and sensing his impending death, reveals a shocking secret to Asai, leading to a tense unfolding of events. With a press screening scheduled for February 12, attention is now focused on whether Yang Ik Joon will make an appearance.
