As the police launch an investigation into workplace bullying allegations surrounding the late MBC weathercaster Oh Yoanna, Kim Ga Young, one of the individuals named by the bereaved family as a perpetrator, has decided to step down from her program.
On February 21, an entertainment media outlet reported that "Weathercaster Kim Ga Young has expressed her intention to leave SBS's entertainment program 'Shooting Stars.'" The report further stated, "Kim Ga Young conveyed to SBS that she could no longer continue in 'Shooting Stars' and her team, Wonder Woman, as she did not wish to cause further harm."
Born in 1996, Oh Yoanna joined MBC in 2021 but tragically passed away in September last year. About three months later, the content of her suicide note was made public, intensifying suspicions that she had suffered workplace bullying during her lifetime.
The late weathercaster's family publicly named individuals they believed were responsible, stating, "The real devils are Lee Hyun Seung and Kim Ga Young." They further claimed, "Park Ha Myeong and Choi Ah Ri bullied her openly, but Lee Hyun Seung and Kim Ga Young tormented her behind the scenes." This revelation led netizens to flood Kim Ga Young’s personal social media accounts, as well as her football practice-related SNS, with criticism.
Following the controversy, Kim Ga Young was removed from her honorary ambassador position in Paju on February 6 and also stepped down from multiple online entertainment shows.
Meanwhile, on January 23, Oh Yoanna’s family filed a lawsuit against her former colleagues at the Seoul Central District Court, seeking damages for workplace bullying. This was made public on January 29.
As investigations continue, public attention remains focused on the case, awaiting further developments.
