IVE's Jang Won Young shared her honest thoughts on the 'Lucky Vicky' syndrome.
On the afternoon of February 3, a press conference was held at Conrad Seoul in Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, to celebrate the release of IVE’s third mini-album, 'IVE EMPATHY.'
'IVE EMPATHY' marks the group's first comeback in about nine months since the release of 'IVE SWITCH' in April 2024. The album’s title track, "ATTITUDE," which will be released later today, conveys the message that while some situations cannot be changed, one's attitude toward them can. The song embraces an uplifting approach to facing unchangeable circumstances.
The track highlights IVE’s confident and self-assured charm, with Jang Wonyoung—who popularized the viral trends "Wonyoung-esque Thinking" and "Lucky Vicky" last year—contributing to the lyrics, making the message feel even more genuine.
The term "Lucky Vicky" originates from "Wonyoung-esque Thinking," a coined phrase that describes her habit of maintaining a positive outlook on situations that could otherwise be perceived negatively. "Lucky Vicky" combines “Lucky” with Wonyoung’s English name, “Vicky,” symbolizing an optimistic mindset.
Regarding the widespread popularity of "Lucky Vicky," Jang Won Young humbly stated, “I never consciously thought of it as 'Wonyoung-esque Thinking' or 'Lucky Vicky'—this is simply how I have lived since childhood.”
She continued, “At some point, the public started viewing my mindset positively and gave me these labels, which made me realize the importance of walking the right and virtuous path. I also feel that I’ve personally been influenced in a positive way by this name.” With a playful smile, she added, “Maybe this is what true Lucky Vicky is all about,” drawing laughter from the audience.
Meanwhile, IVE’s third mini-album, 'IVE EMPATHY,' includes a total of six tracks: double title tracks "REBEL HEART" and "ATTITUDE," along with "FLU," "You Wanna Cry," "Thank U," and "TKO." The album will be available on various online and offline platforms starting at 6 PM KST today.
