Han Ga In sets parenting vlog to private amid ‘7-Year-Old Entrance Exam’ and ‘Daechi Mom’ parody controversy.
Actor Han Ga In has set her parenting vlog to private, seemingly in response to the public backlash surrounding extreme education culture, particularly after the shockingly competitive “7-Year-Old Entrance Exam” revelation and comedian Lee Su Ji’s viral parody of “Daechi Moms.”
On February 25 KST, Han Ga In’s YouTube channel ‘@hangainisfree’ removed the controversial vlog titled “Actress Han Ga In’s Shocking 24-Hour Observation Camera (Insane Schedule, Do Not Try This at Home).”
Recently, the KBS investigative program ‘In Depth 60 Minutes’ exposed the shocking reality of South Korea’s “7-Year-Old Entrance Exams,” where children as young as 5 or 6 years old undergo intense academic testing just to secure a spot in elite academies.
A mock exam from a private academy revealed that students were required to:
• Read multiple long passages on an A4-sized sheet,
• Answer 30+ comprehension questions,
• And demonstrate logical reasoning skills—all at an age when most children are just learning to read.
A 29-year veteran English teacher criticized the exam’s difficulty, stating:
“This is basically a college entrance exam. Asking 5-year-olds to analyze and infer meaning from complex texts is borderline intellectual abuse.”
Amidst growing public outrage over extreme early education pressures, Han Ga In’s parenting vlog resurfaced as an example of this intense culture.
Adding fuel to the fire, comedian Lee Su Ji recently gained viral attention for her satirical portrayal of a hyper-competitive Gangnam mother.
• Her character, Lee So Dam, constantly mixed Korean and English,
• Bragged about her 4-year-old child’s supposed genius,
• Micromanaged their tutoring schedule,
• And even ate meals inside the car while shuttling them between academies.
Viewers quickly drew comparisons between this exaggerated character and Han Ga In’s real-life parenting style, sparking online criticism:
• “This feels like a Han Ga In parody.”
• “She’s the real-life Daechi Mom.”
• “Her daily schedule is just as extreme.”
Han Ga In’s Parenting Routine Sparks Debate
Han Ga In had previously shared her daily schedule, which included:
• 6 AM: Wake up to drive her eldest daughter to an international school
• 9 AM: Drop off her younger son at kindergarten
• 11 AM: Attend a moms’ gathering in Gangnam
• Evening: Shuttle her daughter to math academy, eating dinner in the car
Some viewers related to her dedication, while others criticized it, calling her a “helicopter parent” and “overly intense.”
Facing backlash, Han Ga In defended her approach, clarifying:
“That was just a particularly busy day. My daughter only stays late at math academy once a week. If it were every day, we’d both be too exhausted. I don’t force my kids into anything—they only do what they enjoy.”
With mounting controversy, Han Ga In ultimately removed the video, possibly to distance herself from the growing debate surrounding Korea’s extreme education system and competitive parenting culture.
The situation reflects a larger societal concern over South Korea’s intense focus on early education, where parents compete aggressively to secure top-tier schooling opportunities for their children.
Han Ga In, meanwhile, remains a well-respected public figure, having married Yeon Jung Hoon in 2005 and raising two children together.
