Actor Kang Ji Hwan awaits appeal decision in damages lawsuit filed by former agency.
The verdict for the appeal of the damages lawsuit filed by actor Kang Ji Hwan’s former agency will be announced today (Nov. 6), following his previous victory in the case.
Last November, the court ruled in favor of Kang Ji Hwan by dismissing his former agency’s claims for damages amounting to 4.2 billion won(approximately 3 million USD), but the agency appealed the decision.
In 2019, Kang Ji Hwan was convicted of sexually assaulting and molesting two female staff members who were resting at his home after drinks. Although he initially denied the allegations, he later requested leniency in court.
In the appeal, Kang Ji Hwan was sentenced to two years and six months in prison, with a three-year probation period, leading to widespread criticism.
Following the conviction, Kang Ji Hwan was removed from the TV Chosun drama 'Joseon Survival'. The production company also filed a lawsuit against him to recover unpaid fees and penalties totaling around 6.38 billion won. The court ruled that Kang Ji Hwan and his former agency should compensate the production company approximately 5.3 billion won.
As the appeal decision for the 4.2 billion won damages lawsuit against Kang Ji Hwan is set to be announced today, attention is focused on whether he will again prevail.
