One of the most highly anticipated films of the year, Harbin, is set to heat the winter box office. The movie, which chronicles the turbulent journey of General An Jung Geun and other independence fighters, held its production presentation yesterday in Yongsan, Seoul.
"The harrowing cries of fallen comrades echoed in my ears and lingered before my eyes."
Set on October 26, 1909, during a time when Korea had lost its sovereignty, the story follows An Jung Geun and a group of independence fighters as they embark on a mission to assassinate Ito Hirobumi at Harbin Station. The film also explores the nail-biting pursuit between the fighters and their adversaries.
Actor Hyun Bin, who plays An Jung Geun, shared his thoughts at the event: "The weight of portraying such a significant figure in our history was immense. I poured my heart into every movement and line to embody the anguish, conviction, and resolve that General An likely experienced as a human being."
Director Woo Min Ho emphasized the physical and emotional commitment of the cast and crew: "We believed we couldn’t do justice to the independence fighters’ sacrifices if we worked in comfort."
The star-studded cast, including Park Jeong Min, Jo Woo Jin, and Jeon Yeo Bin, braved extreme conditions, filming across Mongolia and Latvia in temperatures as low as -40°C to achieve a high level of authenticity. Harbin is scheduled to hit theaters on December 25.
