A recent survey was conducted to find out the music taste of teens in Japan. These teens were asked to share their top K-pop group picks for 2024, reflecting the evolving popularity of Korean artists across Japan.
K-pop's influence continues to spread among Japanese youth this year, with the genre's popularity steadily on the rise.
The survey, conducted among both male and female teens, categorized results by popular male and female idol groups. This year, Stray Kids were chosen as the most popular male group while TWICE was selected as the most popular female group.
Korean netizens commented:
"The ranking changes every time it comes up, lol. You can really gauge popularity in Japan by tour attendance since album sales or popularity rankings can be manipulated, but you can’t fake tour audience numbers."
"It’s a poll that doesn’t need to be taken too seriously, but it’s true that Stray Kids are incredibly popular in Japan, lol. They’ve gone from being a rising popular group to being one of the top groups for quite a while, so it’s not surprising to see them in first place."
"I figured it would be Stray Kids; they’re insanely popular in Japan."
"Stray Kids, NewJeans, and IVE all seem to belong at the top, but you can just take this as a bit of fun. HYBE is probably going to release another report soon, lol."
"BOYNEXTDOOR’s popularity is doing well in Japan too."
"ASTRO is my bias group, but it’s really surprising… Their popularity in Japan just keeps going strong."
"I'm surprised BTS is still ranked 2 because they are on military hiatus. Also, most of the members are now in their 30s."
"IZ*ONE is still in the rankings..."
"X1 is still there too."
"I thought BOYNEXTDOOR would be popular in Japan."
"RIIZE is not that popular in Japan? They're below X1...X1 isn't even active anymore."
