On September 19 KST, numerous Seongsan-dong residents confirmed that they had received a surprise gift from singer IU hanging on their doorknobs.
One resident wrote, "I live right by Seoul World Cup Stadium, and this is the first time that I'm getting something like this. Usually on the weekends, I just go, 'Oh, there must be another match or another concert', but this is the first time that a celebrity actually gave out something like this to ask for understanding from the residents TT."
According to various accounts on online communities, IU distributed gifts to residents at several apartment complexes located in Mapo-gu, Seongsan-dong, right next to Seoul World Cup Stadium. It's commonly known that residents living in these complexes deal with loud noise on weekend evenings caused by the frequent sporting and music events held at the venue. One such event, IU's '2024 HEREH Encore : The Winning', will be held this weekend from September 21-22.
Ahead of her upcoming encore shows, IU distributed gifts to over 4,000 homes in the vicinity of Seoul World Cup Stadium, warning the residents of the noise and traffic congestion expected over the weekend. The singer's gift consisted of garbage disposal bags, a common household item with many uses. A message on the bag holding the garbage disposal bags read, "From September 21-22, 2024, IU's 2024 concert will be held for 2 days at Seoul World Cup Stadium. We ask residents in the area for your generous understandings."
Many residents were particularly moved by the fact that this was the first time that any musician had ever offered them such gifts to apologize for any discomfort caused by weekend events held at the World Cup Stadium.
Meanwhile, '2024 HEREH Encore : The Winning' will mark the grand finale of IU's first world tour, which spanned across 18-cities over the course of 5 months.
