Actress Oh Ha Nee, who portrayed bold scenes of nudity and a same-sex love scene in 'Queen Woo,' has shared her thoughts on the experience.
On September 16, Sports Today reported an interview with Oh Ha Nee.
The TVING original drama 'Queen Woo' is a historical action thriller set in a 24-hour period, focusing on Woo Hee (played by Jeon Jong Seo), who struggles to become the queen after the death of Goguryeo's 9th king, Go Nam Moo (portrayed by Ji Chang Wook). The plot revolves around the controversial practice of "levirate marriage," where a widow marries her late husband’s brother to continue the family lineage. The story centers on Queen Woo, who continues her reign after Go Nam Moo's death.
Oh Ha Nee plays the role of Sabee, a shaman who serves as Go Nam Moo’s close advisor, selecting auspicious dates and interpreting omens. Sabee is also a character who secretly cultivates desires and conveys hidden information in exchange for favors.
'Queen Woo' sparked controversy due to its bold and explicit content, particularly the same-sex love scene that became a hot topic. Oh Ha Nee was at the center of the controversy, as she portrayed a daring scene in Episode 2 with Woo Soon (played by Jung Yoo Mi), the queen’s older sister. In the scene, Woo Soon, under the influence of a mysterious potion, mistakes Sabee for King Go Nam Moo and engages in a passionate encounter that lasts for approximately 1 minute and 54 seconds.
When asked about the public's reaction to 'Queen Woo,' Oh Ha Nee admitted she was aware of the buzz, saying, "I’ve been following the reactions. My friends in our group chat were all shocked. I’ve also received many DMs like ‘I really enjoyed it’ and ‘I’ve been waiting for this project,’" she said with a shy smile.
Interestingly, she revealed that she didn’t feel anxious about the nudity. "I wasn’t worried about the exposure. Sabee’s role is significant, so I was more focused on playing the character well. The burden of nudity didn’t weigh heavily on me. All I wanted was to do my best," she explained. "However, it’s a bit disappointing that people don’t seem to focus on my acting. It comforts me when I hear comments like ‘Beyond the nudity, your acting left an impression.’"
Born in 1990, Oh Ha Nee has captivated viewers through her performances in 'The Killing Vote' (SBS), 'Perfect Marriage Revenge' (MBN), and the web drama 'Tachyometry.' Before becoming an actress, she had trained as an idol.
The TVING original series 'Queen Woo' released Part 1 on August 29, and Part 2 premiered on September 12.
