On July 25, the Seoul Yongsan Police Station announced that actor Yoo Ah In (age 38, real name Uhm Hong Sik) has been booked for sexually assaulting a man. Yoo allegedly sexually assaulted a man identified as Mr. A (age 30), who was sleeping at an officetel in Yongsan-gu on July 14.
An exclusive report by Chosun Ilbo indicates that Mr. A was asleep at the officetel from 6 AM to 4 PM on the day of the incident. He reportedly woke up and realized he had been sexually assaulted, prompting him to file a police report the following day.
The officetel was neither Yoo's nor Mr. A's residence but belonged to a third party, and other men were present at the scene during the incident. The police are also investigating whether Yoo Ah In, who is already on trial for habitual drug use, committed the crime under the influence of drugs.
Yoo Ah In is currently facing trial for administering propofol 181 times between September 2020 and March 2022 and for illegally obtaining sleeping pills under another person's name from May 2021 to August 2022. The prosecution has requested a four-year prison sentence, a fine of 2 million KRW (~1,447.76 USD), and an additional fine of approximately 1.5 million KRW (~1,085.82 USD). In his final statement, Yoo Ah In's defense team pleaded for leniency, citing his struggles with depression, anxiety disorders, and insomnia. They noted that he had been advised by a psychiatrist to seek hospitalization and take sedative medications.
