On June 21, South Korean actor Byun Woo Seok took time to answer questions from the press members ahead of his sold-out 'Summer Letter' fan meeting in Manila, Philippines.
Byun Woo Seok relayed his excitement and joy as this was his first visit to the country. After the tremendous success of the fantasy romance drama 'Lovely Runner,' the actor had the opportunity to host his solo fan meeting across Asian cities. "Just the fact that I get to go to different places is really exciting. But aside from that, I get to see the culture of these different countries," he said. "It's something that awakens my mind."
Ryu Sun Jae of 'Lovely Runner' marks Byun Woo Seok's first main leading role. According to him, he fell in love with the character because he could relate to him.
When asked if he expected the drama's local and international recognition, he said that he did not expect it to garner that much success. "I just enjoyed filming it and hoped that the viewers will also enjoy watching the series," he added. "The crew had the same thoughts as well."
According to Woo Seok, his day-to-day happenings are still a big surprise. He was also amazed at the crowd waiting for him at the airport before he arrived in Manila. "Doing a press conference is already a dream come true for me," he said.
'Lovely Runner' follows a love story between Ryu Sun Jae and Im Sol (played by actress Kim Hye Yoon) who were destined to meet but never did. On Byun Woo Seok's top 3 favorite scenes, he enumerated the episode where he confessed that he likes Sol, where he was talking to his dad but couldn't tell the pain he's going through, and the scene where Sun Jae told Sol, "It's okay if I die as long as you like me."
When asked about how he builds chemistry with his co-stars, he shared that there is no secret in building such a good relationship with them. He said, "Our love for the drama makes us connect. I don't have a personal approach, it's just coming from hard work and love for what we do," adding that it is also because he's working with good actresses.
For his new fans, Woo Seok would also like to recommend the dramas 'Strong Girl Nam Soon' and '20th Century Girl.' However, "Everything is so precious, so I can't pick just one," he said.
On his upcoming projects: "There's no particular role I want to try next, but I would love to do another rom-com." He added, "I hope you'll watch out and get excited for my next project, which will be released in a few months."
Presented by PULP Live World, Byun Woo Seok's 'Summer Letter' fan meeting is scheduled to happen on June 22 at the New Frontier Theater.
Byun Woo Seok: "I hope that the fans who will come to see me and have spent their time, money, and effort will go home with memories. I hope that they will appreciate the time we have together and have a good time as much as I do. Thank you so much for the overwhelming love for Sun Jae from 'Lovely Runner.' Let's have a good time together. Thank you so much for your great support and love that I didn't imagine happening."
