Joo Hyun Young will not be joining the fifth reboot season of Coupang Play's variety show 'SNL Korea'. After contributing as a fixed crew member up to Season 4, Joo has decided not to participate in the upcoming season following thorough discussions.
Joo first joined the crew of 'SNL Korea' in September 2021 with the start of its first reboot season and has since been an active member. She entertained viewers with her unique characters across various segments throughout four seasons.
Having majored in theater, she gained notable attention on 'SNL Korea' through her portrayal of the charming intern reporter 'Joo Reporter' in the show's flagship segment 'Weekend Update'. Joo's interviews with prominent political figures in the 'Joo Reporter Goes' segment and her portrayal of a 'young know-it-all' in the 'MZ Office' segment resonated deeply with the audience.
Rising to stardom through 'SNL Korea', Joo also began to stand out as an actress. She played the role of Donggeurami, a close friend of Woo Young-woo (played by Park Eun-bin), in the popular ENA drama 'Extraordinary Attorney Woo' which ended in August 2022, and received acclaim for her role as Park Yeon-woo's maid Sawol in MBC's recently concluded drama 'The Virtuous Queen of Han's Contract Marriage'.
After her departure from 'SNL Korea', Joo plans to focus on her acting career. While there have been speculations about the recent conflicts between the production team and the production company influencing her decision, it's known that Joo had already decided to leave after Season 4. Joo is affiliated with AIMC, a subsidiary of AStory, which was involved in the production of Seasons 1 to 4 of 'SNL Korea'. However, conflicts have arisen as the production team, including PD Ahn Sang-hwi, moved to Coupang's subsidiary CP Entertainment for the production of Season 5.
Joo is currently searching for her next project following the end of 'The Virtuous Queen of Han's Contract Marriage'. She is also awaiting the release of her movie '2 O'Clock Date', shot in 2022, and is set to appear in the upcoming Tving original variety show 'Crime Scene Returns', scheduled to be released on the 9th of next month.
noooooo. wish the best for.
