The court has confirmed the allegations of sexual harassment and assault against CEO Kang of Spire Entertainment, affecting two significant legal decisions.
The K-pop group Omega X had previously accused their former agency, Spire Entertainment, of verbal abuse, insults, coercion, and forced harassment, all led by CEO Kang. The court has now substantiated these claims in two separate rulings.
Omega X had filed for two injunctions. The first sought to suspend their exclusive contract with Spire Entertainment, following a press conference in November 2022 where the group detailed their experiences of assault and verbal abuse by CEO Kang. The second injunction related to a YouTuber named In Ji-woong, who was suspected of video tampering.
In both rulings, the court recognized the mistreatment of Omega X members by CEO Kang, including verbal abuse, insults, coercion, and forced harassment. These findings were pivotal in the court's decisions.
Regarding the exclusive contract suspension, the court acknowledged the severity and frequency of the abuse, stating that it went beyond mere criticism. The court also noted that Spire Entertainment executives had threatened the disbandment of Omega X, damaging the trust between the parties.
Following these injunctions, Omega X and Spire Entertainment mutually terminated their exclusive contract in May of the same year.
In the case of In Ji-woong's video, the court similarly acknowledged the harassment and ordered the deletion of the video due to its false claims against Omega X.
In December of the previous year, the court clarified that they did not rule out the possibility of sexual harassment or assault by CEO Kang. In Ji-woong's claim that the court found no evidence of such acts was thus deemed factually incorrect, and the court ordered the removal of his video.
Omega X's legal battle against In Ji-woong's video is expected to continue in the main lawsuit.
The court's rulings recognized the abusive behavior of Spire Entertainment and CEO Kang towards Omega X members. In contrast, Spire Entertainment has recently claimed that Omega X's allegations are false.
On the 5th, Spire Entertainment announced a defamation lawsuit against Omega X's legal representatives, claiming the spread of false information. However, Omega X's lawyer, Noh Jong-eon, stated that no legal documents or attendance orders have been received, suggesting the lawsuit might be an attempt to hinder Omega X's activities and fundraising efforts.
Noh Jong-eon also commented on the broader implications of the case, highlighting it as an example of how young people's dreams can be exploited, and expressed hope for Omega X to overcome these challenges.
Wow..... these boys have been through a lot. I hope they can pick up their careers after this lawsuit is settled
