After wrapping up 'Doctor Cha,' Uhm Jung Hwa spoke candidly about her career and discussed balancing being a singer and an actress in the entertainment industry.
In the June 8 episode of 'You Quiz on the Block,' Uhm Jung Hwa appeared as a special guest and reminisced back on her career in the entertainment industry and also talked about her successes.
In the show, she shared how she had to face challenges in both the music and film industries. After debuting with the film 'On a windy day, we should go to Apkujeong Dong,' Uhm Jung Hwa was unable to get other roles in the film industry because her image as a singer had been solidified.
Her breakthrough role came in the critically acclaimed film 'Marriage is a Crazy Thing,' where she showcased her talent as the main lead. This pivotal performance served as a stepping stone, propelling Uhm Jung Hwa into the spotlight and subsequently unlocking opportunities for her to take on significant roles in other notable films.
She shared, "Before doing this film (Marriage is a Crazy Thing), I contemplated a lot. There were a lot of explicit scenes so a lot of people tried talking me out of it. A lot of people worried that I might even lose the popularity that I had at the time. I was afraid too but I really wanted to be in movies again."
Uhm Jung Hwa continued explaining, "My image was so solidified as being a singer so no films came my way. But the film 'Marriage is a Crazy Thing' gave me an opportunity, thankfully. And I really loved the story it was telling."
After her breakthrough role in 'Marriage is a Crazy Thing,' Uhm Jung Hwa was able to build up her filmography with various dynamic roles in notable films. However, there were many people who still worried she might be spreading herself too thin.
Uhm Jung Hwa candidly shared, "To be honest, being a singer and an actress at the same time doesn't really benefit any career. But still, I can't give up just for that reason. I wanted to go down that path and wanted to give it a try."
I love Uhm Jung Hwa. I'm watching Doctor Cha right now. I'm on ep.15 and I'm bawling my eyes out. I was fooled into thinking that this was a romcom.
