Don Spike claims to have begun taking drugs due to the pain of a heartbreak.
On April 6, New Daily reported an exclusive interview with Don Spike's legal representative, who is in charge of defending Don Spike in the appeal trial.
On this day, the legal representative stated, "Don Spike is naturally easily stressed and very introverted," and stated that he became heartbroken after his ex-girlfriend cheated on him. The attorney stated, "Before meeting his current wife, he almost gave up on his life after dating a certain woman."
The legal representative continued, "At the time, Don Spike was even thinking about marrying that woman. However, they broke up after he found out that she was cheating on him with another man. Thereafter, he lived in pain. That is when one of his friends gave him drugs telling him it would ease the pain."
Don Spike's attorney explained further, "That's when he met his current wife. After they began dating, she found out that he was doing drugs, and his current wife tried leaving him. He begged (her not to leave him) becoming desperate because he couldn't live without her. So she agreed to marry him."
The attorney shared that Don Spike was caught doing drugs again three months after they got married. The lawyer revealed that Don Spike's wife decided to stay by his side and support him. He explained, "She has been supporting him telling him not to give up on life. Don Spike is putting much effort to repay the grace that his wife has shown him."
Meanwhile, Don Spike was arrested for buying 45 million KRW (about USD 36,033) worth of Philopon (type of meth) spread out through 9 transactions and using the illegal drug 14 times, including 5 times he shared the drug with others at the parties. He was also charged with allegations of handing over MDMA and Philopon to others 7 times.
In January of this year, Don Spike's first trial was held at the Northern District Court of Seoul's 13th criminal division. The court gave him a suspended sentence of 3 years in prison and 5 years probation, meaning he won't be spending any time in jail unless he breaks the law during his 5-year probation.
