With the news that 'Squid Game' season 2 is aiming to begin filming in 2023, attention is being gathered on who will be the protagonist for the following season of the megahit series.
According to Screen Rant on February 13, there is high anticipation that the frontman, played by actor Lee Byung Hun will be the main character of 'Squid Game' season 2.
Season 1 ended on a cliffhanger, leaving many viewers with more questions rather than closure. At the end of Season 1, it was revealed that the mysterious Front Man was actually Hwang In Ho, the ex-cop brother of Hwang Jun Ho. Hwang Jun Ho, the cop that sneaked onto the island in search of his missing brother, assumed that his brother had died in the game, but it turned out that Hwang In Ho ended up winning the game and working for the creator of the death game.
Screen Rant revealed, "Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk addressed the topic of the Front Man and season 2 (via Forbes) and stated that he would like to dive further into In-ho's police background."
The director further elaborated, "I think the issue with police officers is not just an issue in Korea. I see it on the global news. This was an issue that I wanted to raise. Maybe in season two, I can talk about this more."
Screen Rant predicts that the second season of Squid Game will delve deeper into the backstory of Hwang In Ho, exploring how he became the Front Man controlling the red-suited guards, as well as how the other guards ended up on the island.
'Squid Game' season 2 will be released on Netflix in 2024.
