Five years after his debut with, now a Daesang winner group, NCT 127, Japanese member Yuta, shows his ability to write and express his own feelings with his first self-composed song called "Butterfly."
He first performed the emotional song on NCT 127's concert, "NEO CITY: SEOUL - THE LINK," that took place in GOCHEOK SKY DOME on December 17-19, 2021. The performance, which includes showcasing his vocal skill and meaningful dance, captivated fans worldwide as the concert was also broadcasted online for global fans.
Yuta then revealed the true meaning behind "Butterfly" on the behind content posted in NCT 127's Youtube channel on February 22, 2022.
In his words, he said the solo performance was special because he finally could show the fans the song that he made with all of his heart, along with the dance he participated in making with the choreographer. The lyrics contain some messages, including how he wants to change after living in Korea since his trainee days, and he wants to fly from where he is now.
"I'm sure the fans already now that I have a butterfly tattoo. This song is about that," he added, mentioning the butterfly tattoo on the left side of his stomach.
As he showed how he practiced the emotional performance, Yuta revealed more stories behind the songwriting.
"Honestly, this song is a song to myself," said the 26-year-old idol.
Yuta, who knows his fans so well, was sure that the fans could also relate to some parts of the song somehow. He also thanked Rino Nakasone, the concert director, who pushed him out of his comfort zone and helped him to show parts of him that he hasn't shown yet, and encouraged him along the way.
"Usually, when we prepare for our performances, we've focused on details about our dances more than the emotional aspects. But Rino wants us to focus more on our expression. She focused more on the meaning of every move we make," he concluded.
