In an interview with 'Dazed' magazine, Sunmi was asked about her successful solo career and how she is gaining the title of 'Diva', similar to legendary solo artist Uhm Jung Hwa.
Sunmi commented, "I don't consider myself a diva. I appreciate that some view me that way but that title feels so heavy to me."
She then added, "The standards for female celebrities tend to be stricter. Female celebrities are more affected by dating news and scandals. You can just tell from the comments on how it's different from male celebrities. Words of defamation to sexual harassment... I want to be nonchalant about them but I get so angry nowadays."
She continued, "There are definitely going to be people who don't like this interview, too. But I don't want to be fake in my interviews. I want to be sincere. I feel like women will continue to have it hard if I don't get honest. Nowadays, I have the mind of 'I'm prepared to be loved by the public, but also to be hated by them'."
