It was stated that Lee served a total of 32,000 free servings every year to the elders in the neighborhood, calculating to around $230,000 worth of food.
The reason Lee decided to volunteer with such a kind act was due to her mother-in-law. She commented, "My mother-in-law took great care of me. Whenever I see elders I always think about my deceased mother-in-law."
After her mother-in-law passed away, Lee volunteered at the Euljiro-dong's Saemaul Woman's Community Center where she visited a senior citizen center and decided to serve free bowls of ox-bone soup after finding out the elders there weren't having lunch on a regular basis.
Lee commented, "Seeing the condition they were in, I wanted to serve them a warm meal."
She added, "I would like to continue serving and would like everyone to be happy after eating food that I have prepared myself."
