JYP Entertainment has been famous for its popular lineup of artists mainly in dancing. Starting with Rain, Noel, Byul, with the inclusion of boy/girl groups, like g.o.d., Wonder Girls, 2PM, miss A, GOT7, and TWICE, all have received much love from fans not just through music but dance choreography.
Starting in 2015, JYP Entertainment's main focus was on band creation. Regrouping into 4 members, Wonder Girls returned with a new album titled, 'REBOOT,' in which the girls changed their concepts 180 degrees. Adding more rock into the twist, Wonder Girls went from girl group to officially girl band. News regarding the variation sparked great interest among fans alike.
However, the different reactions from the public did not stop the girls from going full force. In just a short span of time, Wonder Girls was able to demonstrate their remarkable skills in drums, bass, and guitar. The band's most recent song, "Why So Lonely", clearly resonates the retro genre deep within listeners' hearts, celebrating their 10 year anniversary.
Boy band DAY6 debuted last year. Being JYP Entertainment's first band, each member is utilizing their gifts in lyric writing and music composing, shown through their album. Furthermore, the boys are working extra hard to establish the band's identity by performing live at concerts.
On the other hand, FNC is well known for its exquisite bands such as CNBLUE. Just last year, they compiled a survival project "d.o.b." through Mnet. The winning team debuted as SF9. Apart from previous bands like FT Island and CNBLUE, SF9 appears to be giving off a different vibe.
AOA also debuted as a girl band. Swapping between band/group concepts, the girls broke off their sluggish chains, which seems to be a reoccurring topic among netizens, depicted in "Get Out" and "Moya." And gradually succeeded in transforming into a dance group with "Short Skirt," "Short Hair," and "Heart Attack." After member Youkyung left last year, AOA returned as an official girl group consisting of seven members and released their first full album 'ANGEL'S KNOCK' just days ago.
What are your thoughts on the shifting dynamics with JYP putting more focus on bands and FNC putting more focus on dance?
