GIRLS' GENERATION - PARTY
Track List:
1. Party
2. Check
3. PARTY (Inst.)
Grab your blanket and head down to the beach. Girls' Generation is throwing a summer 'Party.' In anticipation of their upcoming album, they're giving you a taste of what's to come with two hot tracks.
"Party" is a fun track. You only have to listen to the instrumental to find out how much the girls' voices add to it. This tasty pop confection serves up the sunshine, the autotune (at some points) pushing their voices up to childlike pitch. With a synth riff that bounces along with the vocals, it makes for an exuberant, fun time. It's light, fluffy, and definitely easy on the ears.
"Check" represents a bit of a shift for the band to a more EDM-inspired sound. More controlled and more skillfully executed than "Catch Me If You Can," (IMHO) the girls croon while a synth lows in the background. This song is seriously hook-laden, lyrics like "ma-ya-ya-yan" ("man") and "come here baby / So come and come and get me." Further hooks include the chorus:

Now I can't wait for the full album. This album had fun written all over it, so now it's got me curious about what's ahead. But in the meantime, we have a couple sizzling singles to enjoy. So head down the beach, grab the headphones, and join the "Party."
MV REVIEW
The girls jet off to Thailand for a vacation, and we get to watch as they dance in the sun, surf, and sand. Occasionally in front of surfboards, on the dance floor, or shooting pool, they switch locations like crazy, never lingering on a scene long enough to take a breath. And it's hella fun.
One of the things that makes this MV work so well is that they look like they're having fun. That's not to say they're not hard at work, but it looks like they're enjoying themselves. The girls have great smiles and it's nice to see that once in awhile.
The costumes are appropriate for a summer celebration, even if a bit obvious. You know most guys are tuning in for some eye candy, and this video delivers in spades. They are quite fetching, and as I have noted, the smiles really do it. If they're not living it up, then I'd love to see what they're like when they're really having fun.
The dancing, while not astonishing, is still fairly good. I like some of the drops the girls do (hit 2:39 to see what I'm talking about) and, to keep you from getting bored, they have them set up in groups. One group doing this dance move, another group performing this one. Blended, it adds a little more flavor and richness to the performance. Hyoyeon's known for her dancing, and even the ones that netizens seem to rate as bad dancers (Taeyeon, Sunny, Tiffany) did a pretty awesome job.
Overall it's a solid, fun video. It's no better or worse than the other summer videos that we've already seen, but it does its job like it's supposed to. It sets the scene well, and offers up vibrant colors, pretty girls, and fun beach scenes. What more do you need?
