Family concerts including the full roster of a particular company have been unique to the "Big 3" companies. However, now there are more companies following in the steps of SM Town, YG Family One Concert, and JYP Nation. Other prominent companies that are the backbone of Korea's entertainment industry are planning family concerts as well.
The concert held by Jellyfish Entertainment on the 12th at Japan's TokyoZEPP Diver City displayed the recent trend. Even though the scale was not as large the big 3 company family concerts, the concert included Seo In Guk, Brian Joo, and VIXX, putting forth a small but solid line up.
Jellyfish Entertainment's representative Hwang Se Joon said, "We wanted to move away from the common theme of idol dance performances to include genres such as ballad, dance, and R&B. Brian, in his 30s, Seo In Guk, in his 20's, and VIXX, with members in the teens, were all on one stage, attracting a wide variety, such as teen fans to fans that are over 30 years old."
Cube Entertainment has a strong stable of artists with B2ST, 4minute, G.NA, and BtoB. They started to display their power when United Cube went beyond Korea and into England and Brazil to meet international fans.
FNC Entertainment (FT Island, CNBLUE, AOA), Pledis, (After School, NU'EST, Hello Venus), and Jellyfish Entertainment (Seo In Guk, VIXX) have joined the mix by either already holding a family concert or preparing for one.
Family concerts have the advantage of creating special collaborative content to put on display in the market. For example, FT Island and CNBLUE can collaborate on a stage, or the rappers of After School, NU'EST, and Hello Venus can stand on the same stage to create new content that suited towards the tastes of fans.
Learning new production skills and methods to diversify sales by going through with concert planning and composition is another important reason. The company itself can heighten its value and handle the market much easier after planning family concerts.
A source within the entertainment industry stated, "Family concerts are one of the best ways to make the company name known. As the brand value increases, the consumers' trust in the content produced will increase as well."
