Singer John Park is now the honorary ambassador for 'international poverty-reduction contribution'.
'International poverty-reduction contribution' is a policy, first established in 2007, that imposes a tax of 1,000 won (87 cents USD) to the cost of international flights leaving from South Korea.
The contribution has been used to fight poverty and diseases in Africa through the organizations KOICA and NGO.
On the 26th, an associate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade shared, "There are a lot of cases in which the citizens don't know that every time they fly abroad, 1,000 won is being donated to Africa. We appointed John Park as the ambassador for international poverty-reduction contribution for his kind and exemplary image that suits the purpose of giving hope to the poor countries in Africa."
John Park's agency revealed, "John Park takes his appointment as ambassador for international poverty-reduction contribution that supports people in need in Africa to be very meaningful. As it is a policy with a good purpose, he will enthusiastically participate in his activities as the honorary ambassador."
John Park will officially start his duties as the honorary ambassador with the 'International Poverty-Reduction Contribution Happy Flight Campaign' that will be held on the coming 31st at Incheon International Airport.
