On the May 9th episode of SBS' 'One Night of TV Entertainment', BoA's mother revealed the hardships that her daughter endured when she was sent off to Japan at the tender age of 16.

BoA's mother, Sung Young Ja, revealed, "I received a carnation from my daughter, and while we were eating, she said to me, 'I'm always respecting you right? What special gift should I buy for you today?'"

Ever since a young age, BoA had to live away from her family to pursue her career in Japan. Sung Young Ja further revealed, "At the time, she was 16 years old. Due to the intense amount of stress she received, she was admitted into a hospital for one whole week. During that one week, she lost 22 pounds (10 kg) of her weight. I cried when I heard that."

"Being away from her parents at a young age, I think the small and big hardships that she suffered during her stay in Japan would be many."

Sung Young Ja commented on her daughter, "I'm always thankful for my daughter's loving and considerate heart. We are a family that communicates by heart."
