The number of applications for Mnet's "Superstar K3" has recently surpassed one million! Auditions for the program began on March 10th through ARS and UCC submissions, and as of April 4th, approximately 1,013,000 people submitted an audition tape in the hopes of becoming Korea's next star. To draw an idea of how massive this figure is, "Superstar K1" recorded 720,000 submissions in total; the fact that season three managed to exceed that amount in just under 66 days had stunned not only the program representatives, but the entertainment industry as well. Season three is already beginning to set itself apart from the previous two just by the diversity of talent alone. Director Kim Ki Woong revealed, "Before, there was limited variety in the songs chosen for auditions. Talented singers usually chose rock ballads, but this year, a lot of those standards have been demolished. It could be because we revealed that we'd be judging on diversity above everything else this year, but there are definitely a lot of people pursuing different genres." He continued, "Last year, we also stated that the level of talent had increased, and it's the same for this year as well. There's a definite difference in the talent level in just the UCC submissions alone. Since there are so many more submissions, we feel that even the first round will be difficult to pass."
