Daesung has returned to variety shows after a long break by reuniting with Yoo Jae Suk on his MBC program 'Hangout with Yoo.'

The BIGBANG member was a part of a special episode that aired on October 21 titled 'JS Entertainment,' appearing as a guest alongside Yoo Jae Suk's 'Running Man' castmate HaHa and actors Joo Woo Jae and Lee Yi Kyung.

During the episode, Yoo Jae Suk hinted at Daesung's guest appearance by saying, "It's been almost seven years since I last saw him on a broadcast [...] He has a natural dance ability because he was originally involved in idol activities, and the moment you see him, you get the feeling that he's good at singing." Daesung and Yoo Jae Suk are long-time friends, having previously shown their unique chemistry on the SBS variety show 'Family Outing,' which aired from 2008-2010.

Daesung entered the set excitedly but admitted it felt a bit awkward returning to a variety show. "I'm nervous because there are so many cameras," he confessed. "How long has it been?" However, he then said he loved the set's atmosphere and found being in a space with cameras "so refreshing."

Yoo Jae Suk was endeared by his high energy and enthusiasm, telling Daesung that he didn't remember him being like this during his BIGBANG days. In response, Daesung confessed, "I couldn't be like this when I was active with BIGBANG. I was worried about saying something that could harm my hyungs (older members). As a result, there were difficult circumstances for broadcasting."

Amid the storm caused by Seungri's departure from Big Bang due to the Burning Sun controversy, the group continued their activities as a four-member group, but they faced a tumultuous journey, including T.O.P's departure and his controversy related to marijuana use.

Daesung also found himself at the center of controversy in 2019 when he was suspected of operating an illegal adult entertainment establishment in his own building. While this controversy was mitigated after the police concluded that there was no evidence to support the suspicion of aiding unlicensed adult entertainment establishments in 2020, it still left a stain on the reputation of both BIGBANG and Daesung, who were well-known for their active presence in the music industry.

BIGBANG released a new single titled "Spring Summer Fall Winter" last year, their first release in four years, demonstrating their enduring presence and influence as artists. Daesung announced the end of his contract with YG Entertainment in December of the same year and later moved to RND Company, joining a number of solo artists including Kisum, Kyoung Seo, and Navi.

During the episode, the two enjoyed a meal together and discussed Daesung's life as of late. The idol commented, "It's been a really long time since I've seen you. [...] I briefly spoke to you [a bit ago] and talked about my contract."

Meanwhile, Daesung is set to continue his entertainment activities through his participation as a judge for the new MBN trot survival show 'Living Legend' (lit. trans.), which is scheduled to premiere on November 28.
