In an interview with media outlet Star News some time after accepting the 'Emotive Award' at the '2021 Asia Artist Awards', ASTRO member and actor Cha Eun Woo opened up about his upcoming drama project, his goals as an actor, plus more.
First, Cha Eun Woo discussed his character, the young priest John, from OCN's new blockbuster action drama 'Island'. He said, "I am having a lot of fun on the filming set these days, and playing the role of John is really enjoyable. I am also very close with the actors on set. I am about to return to Jeju island to continue filming, and so 'Island' is the only thing on my mind these days."
Cha Eun Woo then went on in detail about the action scenes required for his role, and how he is approaching them. "Kim Nam Gil hyung is the strongest fighter, and I am a character who kind of gets beaten up a lot, but who gets back up to go at my opponent again. My scenes require a lot of movement, so they are pretty difficult. But having learned dance from my group promotions helped with my action scenes. I usually learn the dance moves fast, and I also like sports. In choreography, angles are critical. So during my action scenes, I found myself being cautious about angles unconsciously, and everyone on set was surprised by that," the star revealed with laughter.
What are Cha Eun Woo's goals as an actor? "My dream is to act in a Hollywood project. These days, contents from all over the world are being spread to different countries. So I would like to have the opportunity to experience new things in a new environment one day," he answered.
Finally, the idol/actor opened up about the loneliness he felt while promoting in several different fields all at once. He began, "Even when I am having difficult problems, it is not easy to talk about them with others. I struggled a lot because of that. Because I have more experience in most areas compared to my group members, they come to me for advice and I try to answer them the best I can. But I am not really able to talk to them about my own problems."
Cha Eun Woo continued, "I think I am still considered pretty young, but in the past 6 years since my debut, I have experienced so much. I have worked in many different areas compared to other friends my own age. And because I am a normal person, I also feel loneliness, emptiness, and confusion. Sometimes, I feel weakness." In addition, Cha Eun Woo mentioned the numerous celebrity guests that he was able to meet while appearing on the SBS variety program 'All The Butlers', and how much he was able to learn and grow emotionally from being on the show.
A- I wanna see it so bad!! Eunwoo would kill in Hollywood
B- it sucks that this path he is on is a double edge sword. He likes acting but is lonely. I’m so sorry, Eunwoo. I wish you had someone to lean on
