On January 3, the Presidential Office announced that they have filed complaints against JTBC, MBC, SBS, and an unidentified YouTuber for violating the Military Base and Military Facilities Protection Act.
According to the Presidential Office, these entities allegedly filmed the vicinity of the presidential residence using helicopters and broadcasting equipment without prior authorization. The area is designated as a military facility protection zone, as it houses the sitting president and head of state, making it a key security facility tied directly to national defense. The Presidential Office deemed the unauthorized filming and broadcasting of the area as actions that threaten the national security system and disrupt social order.
Additionally, the Presidential Office emphasized that any form of aerial photography or visual reporting near the residence is strictly prohibited. Unauthorized filming in this area can result in legal penalties under applicable regulations. The Presidential Office expressed strong regret over the actions of those involved.
The incident occurred during an attempt by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-Ranking Officials (CIO) to execute an arrest warrant for President Yoon Suk Yeol. At approximately 6:14 AM, prosecutors, investigators, and police departed from the Government Complex Gwacheon and began executing the warrant at 8:04 AM. Despite a standoff with security personnel and military forces lasting over five hours, the execution attempt was halted at 1:30 PM without success.
