Starship Entertainment continues to take firm legal action against Sojang as the label states, "It's not about a monetary settlement, we want rightful punishment."
On August 6, the 8-1 Civil Division of the Seoul Central District Court decided to refer the damages lawsuit filed by Starship Entertainment against Park, the operator of Sojang, to mediation.
A mediation referral is a procedure in which the court recommends mediation instead of a trial to resolve a dispute, with the aim of encouraging a voluntary agreement between the parties. The written mediation agreement carries the same legal effect as a finalized judgment.
Speaking with Dispatch via phone on the same day, a Starship Entertainment representative stated, "We are not seeking a monetary settlement. We want rightful punishment for the act of defaming our artists. Mediation seems unlikely."
Park operated the notorious YouTube channel Sojang tha spread malicious rumors about celebrities. She is accused of defaming seven Starship Entertainment artists, including IVE's Jang Won Young.
In November 2022, Starship Entertainment filed a damages claim of 100 million KRW (~71,934 USD) in compensation for defamation, but the appellate court acknowledged part of Park's defense and reduced the amount to 50 million KRW (~35,967 USD).
Park is currently involved in multiple civil and criminal lawsuits with various idols and entertainment agencies, including BTS's V and Jungkook, as well as Kang Daniel. With BTS, a mediation hearing was held on July 22, but no agreement was reached.
