TV personality and former comedian Kim Byung Man has won the lawsuit to annul his adoption of his ex-wife's daughter, officially ending their legal parent-child relationship.
According to Dispatch and other outlets on August 8, the Seoul Family Court ruled in favor of Kim Byung Man's petition to annul the adoption at 2 PM on the same day. On August 7, Kim Byung Man's former adopted daughter filed a paternity confirmation lawsuit against Kim Byung Man, claiming that he appeared to have fathered two children with another woman before he divorced her mother.
In response, Kim Byung Man admitted that he has two children with his fiancée, but argued that their relationship began only after his marriage had broken down. He clarified that the children had nothing to do with his previous marriage.
Kim Byung Man's side stated, "His ex-adopted daughter's wrongful accusation, deemed a severe act of misconduct, was grounds for the annulment."
Kim Byung Man registered his first marriage in 2010 to a woman seven years his senior. At the time, it was Kim Byung Man's first marriage and the woman's second marriage. He adopted his wife's daughter as his legal child and had her recorded in his family registry, granting her the same legal rights as a biological child.
The couple remained married for several years before divorcing. In August 2020, Kim Byung Man filed for divorce, and it was finalized on September 7, 2023.
Near the end of the first trial in the divorce case, Kim Byung Man petitioned to annul his adoption of his daughter, but it was dismissed at the time after the daughter submitted a statement declaring she did not want to be disowned.
Kim Byung Man debuted as a comedian in KBS’s 17th open recruitment and has been active in various entertainment programs. He is best known for his role as the "Chief" on the variety show 'Law of the Jungle.'
He is set to remarry in September, with a wedding planned in Seoul.
