As of March 7, SBS has unveiled the first stills of Yook Sungjae in his debut historical drama, 'Haunted Palace,' ahead of its premiere in April.
'Haunted Palace' is a fantasy romantic comedy centered on the struggle for control over one’s body. The drama follows Yeori, a shaman who refuses her fated destiny, and Kang Cheol, an Imoogi (a mythical serpent-like being), who becomes trapped in the body of Yeori’s first love, Yoon Gap. A thrilling battle unfolds as they cross paths with the vengeful spirit Palcheokgui, who holds a grudge against the royal family.
Directed by Yoon Sung Sik and written by Yoon Soo Jung, the drama boasts a fresh and exciting cast, including Yook Sungjae, Kim Ji Yeon, and Kim Ji Hoon.

Yook Sungjae takes on the challenging dual role of Yoon Gap, a scholarly royal librarian and Yeori’s first love, who becomes possessed by the mischievous and arrogant Kang Cheol. Yoon Gap is known for his warm personality, striking good looks, and exceptional intelligence, earning the king’s favor. However, his life takes a drastic turn when he unexpectedly becomes the vessel for Kang Cheol, leading to an intense transformation.
In the newly released stills, Yook Sungjae captivates viewers with his ethereal beauty and commanding presence. His graceful appearance in traditional hanbok suits him perfectly, despite this being his first historical drama. Another still showcases his sharp and intelligent gaze as Yoon Gap, embodying the essence of a skilled royal librarian.
The production team praised Yook Sungjae’s performance, stating, "Despite this being his first historical drama, he has effortlessly embodied both the gentle and intelligent Yoon Gap and the divine arrogance of Kang Cheol. His wide acting spectrum shines through in these dual roles, so we ask for your continued interest and support."
Expressing his excitement about the role, Yook Sungjae shared, "This drama offers a variety of emotions and experiences. Playing Yoon Gap, who is restrained and proper, and then switching to Kang Cheol, who disrupts that image, will bring an intriguing contrast for viewers."
SBS’s new Friday-Saturday drama 'Haunted Palace' is set to premiere in April.
