The K-pop social media feeds are buzzing with discussions about Starship Entertainment's upcoming girl group, KiiiKiii as photos of speculated members began circulating the web.
Among the rumored members disclosed, Jiyu stands out for her captivating visuals. Korean netizens are in awe of the trainee's beauty, while international netizens express surprise over her youthful appearance.
The debate continues as many international netizens are saying Jiyu looks younger than a middle schooler. However, according to the information that has spread, Jiyu was born in December 2010, which means she turned 14-years-old just a few months ago.
With the information floating around and the opinions of overseas online users, Korean netizens are also divided over Jiyu's visuals.
"Those photos were taken when she was younger. There's no way she still looks like that now… Of course, I also think idols should debut at least after high school."
"A ban on minors debuting seems necessary."
"It’s probably an old photo. Maybe the styling makes them look more mature… But debuting in middle school does seem too early."
"There have been K-pop idols who debuted at that age before, both back then and now. But they were too young then, and they still seem too young now."
"Probably they're circulating older photos."
"14/15 is young, but not the youngest I've seen debuting. The photos make her look even younger, so I get why people are shocked."
"They just have a particularly babyish face. No one says anything when mature-looking girl group members debut."
"It’s probably from a few years ago."
"She really looks like an elementary school kid… Reminds me of the trainees who debuted through My Teenage Girl."
"That photo is obviously from elementary school. If they were born in 2010, they’re in 9th grade now. Not saying it’s ideal, but Wonder Girls and SHINee also had members debut in 8th or 9th grade. It’s not that unusual."
"Overseas fans are freaking out just because they were born in 2010."
"Born in 2010… Wow, that is young."
"There are plenty of idols who debuted at 14/15. Just because they have a baby face, people are overreacting. We don’t even know when the photos were taken."
"She looks way too young. Korean female idols already get criticized overseas for debuting too young."
"Banning minors from debuting? Might as well say idols shouldn’t exist."
"I looked them up because they were pretty, and yeah, it’s an old photo—probably from 3–4 years ago."
"Oh, I thought that was their current face. LOL. If it's an old photo, they’ve obviously grown. IVE’s Leeseo and NewJeans’ Hyein were even younger when they debuted than this member."
