On the January 31 broadcast of 'I Live Alone', announcer Kim Dae Ho announced his decision to resign as a broadcast announcer at MBC.
Kim Dae Ho, who began his career as an MBC announcer in 2011, revealed, "I devoted myself to this broadcasting station without regrets. Rather than considering it as me leaving a job, I am thinking of it as a decision to pursue a new lifestyle. I'm scared, but also excited."
Hearing this, Jun Hyun Moo commented, "When you go from making a salary to making 0 money unless you have freelance work lined up, it can be horrific. You might find yourself sitting at home doing nothing. But I do not think that Dae Ho will be too stressed out by those circumstances, like me. I think his outlook will be more positive, and he'll wait for the right time. So I hope you trust yourself and your decision."
Meanwhile, in light of Kim Dae Ho's resignation announcement, netizens showed renewed interest in the busy schedules of broadcasting station announcers.
On a previous episode of 'I Live Alone', Kim Dae Ho returned home after a business trip overseas. What caused shock among viewers was the poorly maintained state of Kim Dae Ho's home.
The announcer revealed, "I am so busy that I had to give away some of my plants, and the others just died. I generally get two days off a month. Home is just a place to sleep." Like the announcer said, his home was a mess with spiderwebs hanging from the ceiling, while his longtime hobby of raising plants remained abandoned.
Additionally, during an appearance on tvN's 'You Quiz on The Block' last year, Kim Dae Ho stated that broadcast announcers affiliated with MBC receive on average 40,000~50,000 KRW (~ $28~34 USD) per hour for every MBC program they appear on, while other celebrities can receive figures closer to 10 million KRW (~ $7,000 USD). Not to mention, on top of their announcer activities on MBC programs, broadcasting station announcers who receive a salary are required to fulfill full-time office work hours.
Many netizens cheered on Kim Dae Ho for his decision, commenting, "I think he resigned so he could live", "I would not have survived his crazy schedule", "I remember being so shocked by the state of his house during that one episode.
