Lee Jung Jae and actress Lim Ji Yeon, known for her role in the "Yeon Jin Syndrome," will team up in the upcoming drama 'Annoying Love', penned by the writer of 'Doctor Cha'.

According to OSEN on November 20th, Lee Jung Jae and Lim Ji Yeon have confirmed their roles in the drama after receiving the script.

'Annoying Love' is a lively romantic-comedy drama that revolves around a washed-up actor known for detective roles and a former political journalist turned entertainment reporter. Written by Jung Yeo Rang, who garnered acclaim for 'Doctor Cha,' which achieved a record-breaking 18.5% viewership rating last year, the series has already sparked high expectations.

Lee Jung Jae will play Im Hyun Jun, a "specialist detective actor" longing to become a rom-com star. Hyun Jun is best known by his on-screen character name, Kang Pil Gu, from the hit drama 'Good Cop Kang Pil Gu,' which is about to begin filming its fifth season. However, being typecast as a righteous detective has led him to feel burnt out and frustrated, as he yearns for a fresh start with roles in romance or comedy.

This marks Lee Jung Jae’s return to Korean dramas after five years, excluding 'Squid Game.' His last domestic project was JTBC’s 'Chief of Staff 2' in 2019. During the interim, he directed his debut film 'Hunt' (2022) and appeared in 'Revolver' (2024) as well as the Disney+ series 'The Acolyte' (2024), showcasing his global presence.

Lim Ji Yeon will portray Wi Jung Sin, a former political journalist now relegated to the entertainment desk of a sports news outlet. Despite her demotion, Jung Sin remains a dedicated journalist, vowing to expose the intertwining corruption between politics and entertainment. Unexpectedly, she becomes enamored with Im Hyun Jun after watching his dramas but finds herself confused between his real-life persona and his on-screen character. Their interactions are filled with witty banter and clashing personalities, creating a comically turbulent dynamic.

Lim Ji Yeon gained global recognition for her role as the school violence perpetrator Park Yeon Jin in Netflix’s 'The Glory' (2022), which became a turning point in her career. Her recent works include 'Lies Hidden in My Garden' (2023), 'The Killing Vote' (2023), and the upcoming film 'Revolver' (2024), cementing her status as a top choice among actresses of her generation.

'Annoying Love' will mark the first collaboration between Lee Jung Jae and Lim Ji Yeon. With Lee’s highly anticipated return and Lim’s addition, the drama boasts an impressive cast lineup, heightening expectations for their chemistry.

Meanwhile, Lee Jung Jae’s 'Squid Game' Season 2 will premiere globally on December 26th, and Lim Ji Yeon’s new JTBC weekend drama 'Lady Ok’s Tale' will begin airing on November 30th.

'Annoying Love' will be directed by Kim Ga Ram of 'Good Partner,' produced by Studio & New, and is currently in discussions for channel programming.
