Persona: Sulli, a highly anticipated dual-part release, is officially set to premiere in November.
Mystic Story, the production company, announced on October 26th that ‘Persona: Sulli’ will be available for global streaming on Netflix starting November 13. The release comprises a short drama film titled ‘4: Clean Island’ and a comprehensive documentary film ‘Dear Jinri.’
‘4: Clean Island’ narrates a captivating story centered around a special pig at an unconventional immigration checkpoint. Here, ‘4’ dreams of moving to Clean Island, the purest place on Earth, but must first confess their sins to proceed. The short film stars Choi Jinri (Sulli), Hwang Miyoung, and Park Gabi, delivering powerful performances that promise to leave a lasting impact. The script is penned by Kim Jihye, celebrated for her work in the film ‘Wish’ and the drama ‘Lost,’ while the co-direction is handled by Hwang Soo-ah, a director renowned for her extensive experience in music videos and films, including ‘Why Did You Come to My House?’
On the other hand, ‘Dear Jinri’ delves deep into the life of Choi Jinri (Sulli), exploring her journey as an actress and artist, alongside her thoughts and contemplations throughout her 20s. The documentary features interviews that offer a unique and intimate perspective of Sulli's life. The film is directed by Jung Yoon-suk, a director acclaimed for his presence in various film festivals and known for his works including ‘Non-Fiction Diary,’ ‘Bamseom Pirates Seoul Inferno,’ and ‘Eyebrows.’
Together, these two cinematic pieces provide a comprehensive and insightful look into the late Sulli's life and career.
Before its Netflix release, ‘4: Clean Island’ had a limited release at Laika Cinema in Seodaemun Gu, Seoul, in September. ‘Dear Jinri’ was also invited to the Wide Angle Section’s Documentary Showcase at the 28th Busan International Film Festival and premiered as a world premiere.
I don't think I'm mentally prepared to watch "Dear Jinri." Sulli's death hit me harder than any other celebrity death. There is such a pain in my heart over her loss; I just can't explain it. On the one hand, I want to watch, but on the other, I'm not sure I will be able to do so.
