An episode of 'Keyword #BoA' from 2018 is garnering attention again after a netizen brought to light the surprising concept that SHINee was supposed to debut with.
SHINee has made a name for themselves after propelling into the K-pop industry with their hit debut song "Replay." The group took the industry by storm as a boy group with powerful vocals and became known as the idol group with top singing talent.
However, in a past episode of 'Keyword #BoA,' Key revealed that SHINee was not supposed to be a vocal group. Key shared that SHINee had another concept they were supposed to debut with because, believe it or not, all the members weren't good at singing.
Key explained, "We were a group that was supposed to mainly do rap, and singing would just be an extra talent."
He continued to elaborate that the original debut song had 80% rap and 20% singing but was rejected by Lee Soo Man.
Key continued to share that the group had no swag to fit the rap concept, so they decided to drop the original song.
According to Key, when the group members heard the song "Replay," everyone was worried that they would not be able to sing the song well. However, the members practiced and got their skills up to sing the song.
Through Key's past remark, many netizens were once again reminded of the hard work that idols put in to make their debut and were also impressed with the improvement the group went through even after debuting.
Netizens commented, "I thought they were just good when they debuted but I guess they worked really hard," "I think this just tells us how high the standard is to make a debut," "They had vocal members who were really good at singing though," and "Jonghyun and Onew were the main vocals who were superb singers."
SHINee is really the ultimate group. They have worked incredibly hard to become who they are today. I am really so proud of them and grateful, too. They really are one of a kind
