On May 11, YG Entertainment published its total sales plus operating profit for the first quarter of 2022.
According to the agency's report, YG Entertainment recorded an operating profit of 6.1 billion KRW (~ $4,750,000 USD) in the first quarter of 2022. This marks a 36% decrease from the same quarter in 2021.
The agency recorded a total sales amount of 75.5 billion KRW (~ $58,790,000 USD) for this quarter, a decrease of 22.2% from the same quarter in 2021. Finally, the agency's net income for the first quarter of 2022 was recorded at 5.8 billion KRW (~ $4,520,000 USD).
An analysis of YG Entertainment's first quarter report revealed that rookie boy group TREASURE's album sales contributed the greatest percentage in this quarter's total operating profit. However, due to the lack of promotions by the agency's other artists, YGE experienced notable financial losses overall in the first quarter of 2022.
Meanwhile, YG Entertainment's leading artist BLACKPINK is expected to make a comeback in the second half of the year, by June or July of 2022. It's also speculated that the group may embark on the second largest-scale overseas tour by a K-Pop artist after BTS some time in late 2022.
