On April 29, the one and only Psy oppa attended a press conference for the release of his 9th full album, 'PSY9th'!
On this day, Psy described in detail how he ended up returning with his title track "That That", produced and featuring BTS member SUGA.
Psy first began, "I received a message from SUGA, saying that he wanted to produce for me. It was around fall of last year, and although SUGA was very busy with his schedules as a member of BTS, he also had his own, ambitious project going on as a producer, working with various artists from the outside. He produced for Heize, IU, and also featured in Lee So Ra's title track. He was building an impressive and meaningful career as a maker of music."
The star continued, "Then, he contacted me, saying that he had made a song that suited me perfectly, and he wanted to produce for me. The instrumental accompaniment for 'That That' which is a part of the final product was exactly what was originally sent to me. As soon as I listened to it, I thought it was great. At the time, I was in a deep debate. I thought that I needed to move away from the EDM-based dance genre, but I also wasn't about to try anything with too slow a tempo. So I was leaning more toward a Latin-based sound, but then what SUGA sent me was just that. I was not in a situation where I needed to consider anything all that thoroughly. At the time, I thanked him profusely for making the burdensome trip, and I am still very thankful. SUGA put in a lot of effort throughout the process."
Psy also shared a behind-the-scenes moment from the MV filming set of "That That". He explained, "We filmed the MV around the middle of March. It was filmed on an open field of sand in Incheon. But Incheon in the middle of March was still extremely cold, and it also happened to rain that morning. Because of the rain, the sand had turned into mud. Once you took two steps, your feet sank into the mud. I was doing it for me, but SUGA endured a lot. Every time I watch the MV, I am thankful for his efforts."
Meanwhile, Psy's 9th full album contains a total of 12 brand new tracks, and is set for release in just a few more hours, on April 29 at 6 PM KST.
